I don't want to bug you with a load of questions but.... I'm curious to know if you ever crossed paths with Ronnie Bottomley or Tony Faulkner in you time gigging around the West Yorkshire area?

Of all the cats out there, I hear more Tony in you, Gary, [& also in Vinnie & sometimes in Novak] than anyone else, except that it's incorporated nicely into each of your own unique & individual styles...[& that's a GOOD thing/compliment, BTW!]

Hi Beat Hit - the Force Majeure DVD is coming along very well thanks. It won't be too long. I'm very happy with the vibe and spirit of the thing, and I really hope other people will dig it too. I'll definitely make a post when it's ready for pre-order.

Tradfreak, yes I've worked alongside Jimmy Johnson very many times during my tenure with Allan Holdsworth. He's fantastic - one of the best there is around. As far as I know there's not too much about him on the net. Shame.
Chris Warunki many thanks. I'll email ya about this. The clinic was a lot of fun. I was determined to try not to get all intimidated and nervous around Vinnie - i considered it important to repay him by trying to get a good musical conversation going, and just try and make it as special as it could be. I ended up playing ... a little manic I think, but the spirit was there, and willing!!
Hi David Francis. Yep sure I remember both Tony Faulkner and Ron Bottomley. they both encouraged me and helped me a lot back then. Good men, and good musicians - both of them.
Fuse U2, thanks! Yep, Tony .. phew ... Williams. He was pretty much a god to me. The first one for me to bring that level of sophistication, suggestion ... all that abstract, but with all that power, grace and elegance to jazz and beyond drums. A hero of heros. I'm touched you can hear an echo of him in me sometimes. I feel very good about that, intrinsically.

Tony is an excellent arranger as well as a great drummer. I believe that the two of them still go back to college part time to teach.

I believe that you're doing a few clinics at BassTech with my mate Janek? I may try and pop down!!

By the way, what is the word with Mick Hutton? Is he still still able to play?

Hi Dazzler - didn't realise that we shared a college! I had lessons with Ronnie in my third year and he was very encouraging. It was exactly what I needed at that stage in my development- to have someone who was so genuine and enthusiastic who believed in me. He recorded a ton of tapes for me which i still listen to in the car all the time. He also ran a college ensemble that I was in for a couple of years - that was a lot of fun we would switch places in mid-tune while the band kept swinging around us. Ronnie would especially love it if i ever dropped in a lick or concept that we had looked at in a lesson. What a great character.
